When it all goes well

I learned that if I talk about laundry and all it’s horribleness I get a fair amount of comments. What gives?

Update: my sweet son (remember him? the one who almost had his mouth smacked off his face) got up that very night sometime around 3:00am-ish to use the bathroom and could not go back to sleep so he stayed up cleaning his room, the one he told me he had not only gotten all dirty clothes from for me to sort, but also had cleaned. The girls decided to work on their room without a single complaint or argument with one another. That was a “let’s-have-a-parade” moment, because I doubt it will ever happen again. I guess my bloomin’ fit made an impression, at least for a day.

I worked throughout the morning to have absolutely everything done that needed to be done before we left town on our new planned day of Wednesday (today). Realized how hard the children were working and working gladly, willingly, and sweetly. SmockDaddy and I decided to leave on Tuesday after all, yes we brought the children with us. ;-) We just worked away at pulling clothes and packing what could be packed and left all last minute items out of the details (toothpaste, toothbrush, etc.) so the children had no idea we were planning to leave that day as scheduled, just a later departure time. I always pack this way the day before getting everything stacked according to individual so I know it’s all there. I start with one child and work my way down the list as I complete each stash of items. I actually make the older ones do it, but then oversee what they have chosen and make sure they remember things like socks and underwear. I do it one at a time so that no one (including me) gets sidetracked and something important (read: underwear) gets left behind. Once it was all done I started gathering the bathroom goods and loaded the car and they finally figured it out: we were leaving that day.

We did have a few errands to run before we could leave town, but it all worked out for good. They were in the car from 10:15am until almost 8:00pm yesterday and they all did well. Almost 10 hours, but they did well. The ten hour trip is why we decided to leave yesterday. All day in the car means Wednesday and Thursday with G’ma and G’Daddy, then Friday to Hotlanta, Saturday SmockDaddy is in a meeting all day while we will find something to do, then drive back to B’ham Saturday night for a good sleep before we drive back home on Sunday.

And WOW! what a boring post. I read a good book I want to say a few things about and we did go to a great historical place today that I will blog about a bit later on after the children are nestled in. Tons of photos to upload in the meantime.

  1. The girls are pretty good about cleaning their room… depending on your definition of clean. I think ‘clearing a 3 foot by 4 foot area of carpet’ is theirs.
    DOINK!
Do you have any advice about a schizophrenic cat? Seriously. I don’t know who that hissing spitting monster is and what he did with Tabby, but he’s on Prozac now.

  2. ….smacked off of his face….

LOL! That cracked me up. I KNOW the feeling!
