We’re Ba-ack

Whew! We left for ‘Ga-ma and Gan-Daddy house’ Monday and a great time was had by all. We all wish we could have stayed longer. We were doing great with the road trip; we have been so blessed with great travellers, but today we learned the limit of the wee one – 6 hours and 37 minutes. Actually, he did really well, but when we got twenty miles from home we ran into some major traffic issues. There seemed to be some sort of accident that kept the traffic from moving for oh, about, maybe, let’s see, 47 minutes and 29 seconds. And being behind an eighteen wheeler keeps one from being able to see what is going on. So there we were, putting along slower than the snails of the world, assuming that we’d be out of it soon.
“What’s going on?”
“I don’t know. I can’t see past the truck.”
“Why are we moving so slowly?”
“Um, I believe I just said -’I don’t know. I can’t see past the truck.’”
“Can we watch cartoons? We’re staying in one spot. Can’t we watch when we are parked?”
“No, I’m sure we’ll be moving soon. Just past those flashing lights and we’ll be moving. I’m sure of it.”
“Hey, why are those policemen looking in everyone’s car?”
“I don’t see a wreck.”
“Why are they making everyone leave the road?”
“Peeze, peeze, peeze! bupple, bupple bupple” – which in translation means, “PLEEEEAAASE UNBUCKLE ME RIGHT NOW!
“Where are we going? Can we still go home?”
“Why can’t we watch cartoons?”
“I don’t know. Me neither. I don’t know. What do you want, Baby, you have to stay buckled. I don’t know. Yes, of course. No, I answered that already; don’t ask me again.”

Oh, by the way:
What did the snail say when he rode on the turtle’s back?

Give up?

WHEEEEEEE!

Meanwhile, back at the ranch (or still tyring to get there) –
we later found out that there was some HazMat issue. I still don’t know all the details, but if we had been farther from home (we were only about 20 miles from home) we would have stopped along the way and let the wee CowBoy out of his seat to run around. They did well for being in the car for 8 hours and at a snail’s pace for 47 minutes and 29 seconds. They are all tucked in beds, either reading or playing with dolls (each girl got one when she turned three) and new doll clothes from ‘Ga-ma’ or lego Visoracs, trying to wind down some before going to sleep. CowBoy is actually running around his crib laughing, just trying to “get it out of his system.” And I am signing off to sit on the couch and veg a while myself.

“Merry Christmas to all and to all a good night.”
(Today is the 5th day of Christmas – I’m still waiting for my five gold rings! :) )

The Davis’ were in that T.J., too. They indicated that it was a hazardous materials spill. Don’t know if they were behind y’all, or not. (”YAHTZEE!”)

Um, yeah, that’s what I said. HazMat ;)
    YAHTZEE for you – WHEEE!

After we got home and the cubbards were bare as we did not stock up before we left the Reverend went to the grocery store and met someone there who had been in the same t.j. for more than two hours. I guess we were some of the lucky ones.

Sounds like a daunting beginning to your trip. Glad it all worked out. It’s good to visit the Grandparents.

What I am wondering is did anyone ask “Are we there yet?”

Oh Mama, you deserve gold rings after a long haul with little ones!

No. Not once. But mine know that is practically a capitol offense and is usually answered with “No,it’s at least four more hours” no matter how long it actually is. I also always answer, “What’s for dinner?” with “Pickled pigs feet and fried frog legs.”

When my students ask “What time does this class end?” I always responde with “Never!” Some questions are just better off not asked! :)
