Trips make me tired
- do laundry
- make list for errands so nothing gets forgotten
- realize you are days behind on the laundry and it will never all get done
- start to sort laundry
- realize that to catch up on laundry a trip to the laundromat is a must
- tell children to get all dirty clothes out of their rooms for the sorting has begun
- finish sorting laundry
- load laundry into back of ‘burban and cry a little inside at the task at hand, but feel relief for all nine loads of laundry will be done at the same time
- leave house at 10:15am
- run errands
- arrive at laundromat at 11:00am, saddened by the slight amount of busy that is being made over machines already
- begin to do laundry
- while waiting on laundry, make packing lists so nothing gets forgotten/left behind
- do laundry
- double check all lists
- fold laundry, load clean folded laundry back into ‘burban to take home
- sigh with great relief that while it did take longer than desired or expected it is all done
- arrive home at 3:03pm
- get home to find that the children had NOT gotten all the dirty clothes out of their rooms and have a bloomin’ fit at the lazy arse beings for not having done as they were told
- cry with great disgust at the insane amount of laundry still yet to be done
- tell children that they will call G’ma and G’daddy to tell them we will not be leaving tomorrow as planned and WHY we will not be leaving tomorrow as planned
- pray that some impact has been made on them by having to be the bearers of bad news as nothing else has seemed to work
- refrain from slapping one child’s mouth as he gets in my face and says, “You hate us don’t you?” because he feels a bit terse and upset the trip will be put off by a whole day
- tell said child that I will refrain from slapping his mouth off his face for such words to me and let him know in no uncertain terms that it would be in his best interest not to speak to me for at least five minutes - mama needs a time-out, then walk away as SmockDaddy begins talking to said child about how he should not only NOT speak to his mother like that, but even more so better not ever speak to his father’s wife that way again
- ‘nuf said
- and there was great silence in the house
- go pick up and hold Bairno as he has missed me all day and is begging to nurse
- lock myself away on my bed with the sweetest, snuggliest baby that ever existed
- emerge 15 minutes later feeling much better, after having had a great time-out
- finish putting away laundry that did get clean
- begin sorting leftover laundry while trying not to vomit at my own anger and disappointment of the situation
- feed children supper
- bathe children / send children to shower
- have a laundry break so children have hot water for bathing/showering
- soak up splashed water from flooded bathroom
- do laundry from dirty children and flooded bathroom
- do yet more laundry
- begin to pull items from clean laundry for packing
- find item that needs to be laundered
- do more laundry
- blog my sad laundry escapade
- do more laundry
Wow, except for the packing, that’s almost a regular day. I guess it is not the trip that makes me tired after all.
Go figure.
LMbootayOff. Sounds like a Ducote-style laundry day, but I only have two kids and one husband/hunter! If I see one of yours missing a mouth, I’ll completely understand! Hey, he’ll grow from the experience. :-)
Sounds like you’ve had a heck of a day! Preparing for and going on “vacation” is always more work than just staying home. We’ve just returned from a quick jaunt ourselves (also started out later than planned, due to children failing to do as asked) and I’ve got to get up for work in the morning (the rest of my house are all on break for the week) and am really feeling as if I deserve a few days in Antigua, instead! I hope you’ll have at least a few moments to relax on your trip…even if it means sending your entire troop out in thrice-worn pants.

You are living my life! except I have the luxury of a washing machine and a tumbler in my home - but it is a constant background noise *sigh*

Blurg…what is is about kids hiding their laundry as if it is a treasure hunt? Sorry to hear you are leaving late but glad this is the week that the land of IKEA will be opened to you all!

ashley - yes, I allowed him to keeep his mouth.
karen - once we get there, it will all be good. It’s always the getting there that does me in.
kirsty - thanks for commenting. I have the luxury of a washer and dryer at home too, but six children make a lot of laundry and when I get behind the best way to catch up is to haul it to the laundromat for multiple washing at the same time.
Chef - treasure hunting I do not, but if they want clean clothes they have to get the clothes to the baskets. I was not aware that it is as difficult a task as it must be. My three year old and my 15 month old seem to be quite good at it. I guess the older we get, the harder the task.
I am sooo looking forward to IKEA. OH, yeah, and seeing you guys too. ;)
I don’t participate in the hide-the-laundry game either but if I happen to pass by the rooms and peer inside, I see it in all sorts of interesting places. As of yesterday, the girls now have to fold their laundry in addition to washing it. CancerMan finally lost his patience with folding various clothing that had not been worn in months, so we’ll see how long the girls wait before giving in and folding it.
Look for an email later. I have been working on the freelance job from, well you know where, but I am finishing this morning by hook or by crook.

I say that to my girls…..not to talk to their dad/my husband that way! Sorry it was so crazy for you!
WOW … Laundry at your home sounds just like laundry at my home!! Just when I think it’s all done … someone decides it’s bath time OR better yet they have worn their current outfit longer than 2 hours and it’s time to change. I’ve learned however to politely hang those 2 hour worn items back on hanger and back in the closet … unnoticed … to be worn again and after about 8 hours of wear (that rehanging 4 times) it will finally get washed. THEY NEVER KNOW!! hahahahaha
Bless you all and I hope you have a safe trip .. enjoy!!

Sounds like a rough day! Posts like this make me grateful that I’m only doing laundry for 2.
Well, if it’s any consolation…..reading this post made ME tired! ;)
