I know we are not the only place in the country right now getting smacked with a strong winter storm; this storm is pretty much going to hit the entire country, in rain or sleet or snow form. That weather band I saw on the map was one big stripe moving across the map.
What’s so different for us, is that we live in the south. So when they said we’d be getting snow, I laughed. Out loud. Then I rolled my eyes sarcastically and wondered how many people would be rushing out to the store to get stuff or the gas station to fill up. Whatever.
This morning we were surprised to find out the weatherman was not lying, or maybe I should say he got it right this time. Getting the older two to do their school work today was a bit of a challenge; between waiting for SmockDaddy to get home from his business trip and the look in the sky of impending snow (they hoped) I finally just gave up and called it off when the sleet began. Around 10.30 the sleet began to mix with snow and then it turned completely to snow. And the flakes got big, big enough to really stick to the ground. We were all a bit excited. I decided as I watched the car get thick with ice and snow to go get Birdie and Princerella from school, whether they were closing or not (I had called and they said no they were not closing, as of yet).
By the time I got there (read: got myself out of my sweats and into some real clothes and boots) half the school had been picked up already. It was 11.30 and they had decided to close at 12.30 anyway. It was time for the bundling to begin. And as Bairno waited for me by the door to get myself bundled, he was having the time of his life watching his siblings squeal with glee.
Read the rest of our snow day at our Homeschool blog. What? We cancelled school, where else should it go?

All we’re getting here is rain, rain, a dreary bit of mist and then more rain. The cat stared out the window all morning, waiting for signs of wildlife, but everyone outside is holed up somewhere out of sight. She wandered around crying for a bit and is now sitting in my lap, alternately purring and complaining. At least my lap is warm…
