sleep. it did not go so well, last night. while i did get some sleep bairno decided (ok, not really his decision) to have a few nightmares or something that made him insecure in his sleeping last night. starting around 1:00a he started rocking and whining and crying in his sleep. of course I didn’t leave him to work it out alone, that’s not my way – i don’t think it’s right (and maybe not just for us, but another time another post). at first though I thought maybe he was just all hot and uncomfortable at which my picking him up and snuggling was not really going to help. you know it would just make us both sweat more. why would we be sweating right now in the middle of december you ask? well, that’s the south for you. actually, it’s worse than that. do you remember me mentioning the dragon in our basement (second DOINK down)? well, the old dead dragon was replaced this past thursday night. so that makes four days and nights that this monstrosity has been sitting on my porch because the guy will not come get it and haul it off. yes, phone calls have been made. numerous times.

the guys began the lovely installation of the new unit some time around 4:30ish and left our house right after 9:00p. he did not have everything he needed for the completion of the a/c and he had to come back friday to finish it and fill it with freon. so in his attempts, yes, I said attempts, to finish the installation he neglected to turn something on that allows the a/c to work. we are living in stuffy, humid heat right now and no way to cool the house down. it is the middle of december and my skin is sticking to itself from sweat and humidity. lovely. i promise. if you look close enough you might catch me scratching my head from the itching tickle of sweat rolling through my hair.

anyway, back to the point of all of this jabber (you know i have some blog typing to catch up on, right?). it’s been hot around here with no way of cooling off. bairno needed a nap and was also asking to nurse, so off i went to take advantage of both situations and get myself some needed rest (with or without sleep) and snuggle with my ever growing up baby who is looking and acting less like a baby everyday. this we will not discuss because i will cry. i was enjoying a much needed state of relaxation when smockdaddy came in and told me birdie fell off of the trampoline and he thought her arm was broken. bairno got hastily dropped lovingly placed into his bed while i jumped up to go see her where she sat pitiful and in quiet tears on the couch. smockdaddy had gotten her shirt partially off of her and ice on it before he came to get me. they are at the er as i type this. i’ve received word that it is broken and we may be facing surgery tonight or in the morning. we are awaiting a call from the orthopedic surgeon (who happens to live right around the corner from us) to see if he thinks we need to undergo surgery. and i just realized ia m writing as if i have to undergo the knife as well. ugh. i hate this. while it does make me nervous and even scared for her i am not the one that will have surgery if it is necessary – but i wish it were. the er doc did tell us that the growth plate is not affected – so that is good and quite a blessing, but the bone that is broken is the humerus – and no, it is not funny.

break

and for the record, she was by herself on the trampoline, there was no horseplay, no rules were being broken – she just bounced right off. i guess we’ll be ordering some new side nets. we used to have some; they weathered and were no longer usable, now i feel guilty for not ordering new ones. that will soon be priority one. even though my child is now part of the er/childhood trampoline injury statistics we will not be throwing out the baby with the bath water and getting rid of the trampoline.

update: while writing this i have received word that at this point there is no surgery scheduled. she has a follow up appointment with the ortho surgeon on wednesday morning. the jury may still be out on the surgery. instructions: eat lite, take pain meds (prescription) and get sleep. in true birdie fashion is more upset about not being able to go to school tomorrow and make her candy cane christmas craft because tomorrow has been dubbed “candy cane day.”

Oh no… I hope that no surgery is required. I bet you can do something to make her forget about missing candy cane day or maybe you can have your own candy cane day at home. I wish for a speedy recovery and for you have a chance to get some rest.

Let me know if the A/C unit is still there by Saturday. I’ll do the deacon thing and pick it up and haul it off (to the parking lot of the installers ;) ).

wondergirl – the pain is fading, which is good as she threw up her pain meds.

lorimo – i may make a quick trip to the store tomorrow, but it was her right arm that broke and she is right handed. if we did any crafts i’d be doing it all for her anyway.

    kay – thanks.

chuck – the guy finally came by to fix the a/c. he gives the unit to a buddy who salvages the copper. the installer will come by tomorrow after work if the other guy doesn’t come by to get it. he was visibly upset the guy had not been by either. but htanks anyway.

when my mom and sister got in that horrible wreck back in 2000, my sister’s arm was broken right there. what they did was put a hard cast on her lower arm, set her elbow at 90 degrees and went up her upper arm a few inches all to basically pull her arm straight and let the bone heal back together (there was about a half inch distance between the break). but that my not be what birdie needs since kathryn was then about twice the age that birdie is now.

p.s. i’ll get you that picture of barino and jatb one of these days. just haven’t hooked the camera up to my puter yet.
