Tips and tricks:
TOG and HST - Last year I ran in to crunch time and didn’t have as much time to get all my information into HST+ as I will this year. So I may add more notes later, I may not. But what I did do and without a doubt will do again this year is get everything copied that I needed to copy and into notebooks ready to go. I used the Loom (at TOG) to print most of the pages instead of actually copying the pages (printing is faster than copying).
Also, I am a heavy duty page protector addict. I am hard on pages as I turn and flip and rip if they are not protected and the neat freak in me makes my children use them too as I can’t stand to check their notebooks and have the pages riped and falling out. Even my daughter who is not as OCD as I am about organizing tends to drop a notebook every now and then and the pages may fall out if the binder pops open, but they don’t rip this way - so I’ve got her hooked too.
Maps - I print those on card stock pages. I have the children color the paper with colored pencils, but we label on layers of transparency sheets. We use Viz-a-viz dry erase and fine point Sharpies for labeling. The dry erase will rub off, so before I check their maps they use the dry erase and then when it’s time for more permanent notes we use the fine point Sharpies.
Supplies - I know it can get expensive, keep an eye out for sales. We don’t have and Office Max or a Staples near us, but I know they have good sales. They may even start to have some sales soon, especially if you are in or near a college town. We do have an Office Depot and every year I can buy a box of 100 page protectors (OD brand) for around $4.00 and get a second box free! Sometimes the sale is better than that. Also, last year I bought three boxes of transparency sheets (100 each) for a total of $10.00 - that’s not bad, although I think I can do better.
