Inside, Outside, Upside down

Over, under, around, and through.

Been a bit busy and I’m not so sure it is going to stop anytime soon. Summer is official on, although not technical on until June 21st. I am trying very hard to find us a new schedule. Adjustment to a few changes around here is not clicking as quickly as I would like it. Because I need structure, not inflexibility, just structure. With structure comes a greater ability to be flexible. Order makes for easy adjustment. Right now we don’t have much of either. What we do have is heat, lots of it. A bit of pain and heartache trying to find other homes for beloved pets. planning and packing for a week long trip and trying to pound it into our budget a bit better. Two new tires which totaled over $300.00 and a need for two more of the same before we hit the road next Monday. Being a one car family stinks.

We have two cars, but during the hot months the van can not be driven and it would be my vehicle of choice as the younger children can get in and out of it by themselves. But the van? She be broke. Bessy is sick. She has no A/C. In early June when the temp is already at 98 degrees by 11:00 in the morning one must have an A/C in the vehicle. Sure, I know, just role the windows down, at least that way the air would circulate. Truthfully, that would be fine with me if any of the windows worked. NONE of them will go down - the van is a massive blue oven in the summer. Getting the A/C fixed is a bit of an expense to begin with but as the van is a 1997 model it needs to be re-fitted for the new kind of A/C equipment and that adds major $$$ to the work. So that ain’t gonna happen anytime soon. And we just learned that she needed a new head gasket. Which translates into at least $1,000.00.

So we’ve been trying to beat the heat and summertime blues by running up the water bill as high as we can by playing in the sprinkler, making mud puddles, and washing more loads of towels to dry off those dripping bodies and mud-makers than I thought was even possible to wash (speaking of just towels).

We’ve been ending the school year with a very special little girl’s Kindergarten GRADUATION program. Excuse the caps, but we are quite excited here about that for her. We knew she could do it, but she has had to struggle and overcome so many other (physical) boundaries that tend to hold her back that others don’t think she’s capable or equal to them in so many ways. She is now officially a First Grader, having been promoted with A’s and B’s (an one C, in math). Poor girl, she’s not the only one in this family not to like math.

  1. Those kittens are so cute. All you readers without cats need to go get one… or three. Tabby won’t let me have one. :(
I don’t know how he can sleep like that. Susan is still asleep. It’s almost 9:00. We are not morning people.
Oh yeah, get Chuck to look at the van. I don’t know if he can do anything about the A/C, but he’s fixed a couple of head gaskets. That way it would only cost you the parts.

  3. Oh, thank you for such a great updatey post! Looks like the kiddos are in full summer-swing. Sorry about the air in your van- I feel your pain! Hang in there.

As to the kittens, they are pwecious, and I want one. I may be crazy enough to ask my hubby if we can adopt one… I’ll get back to ya.

  4. I too am trying to organize & schedule our days. The heat is killer here too also in the 90’s. I wish I lived closer I would definitely take a few of those kittens off of your hands. We are looking to adopt a few (well taken care of) barn cats. Our local shelter will not let us adopt because they will live outdoors (gasp) in the barn (gasp). Our barn is an animal condo!!

  5. Oh, our water bill is just as high as yours. We got a pool but it’s the only way with the heat like it is.
Are you going to Hattiesburg this summer? My little Ladybug is going to Camp Wesley Pines in July so we we’ll be there for a bit over a week.
Oh I so need a barn cat, I wish I could get one of your adorable little ones.
    Congrats to all the graduates!
