Christmas Parade

So today was a very busy day. I tweeted about having a super secret date with Santa and hitting the road just for that date. Santa and I had some very important discussions about wish lists and whether we had good or bad boys and girls in my house. The consensus was that they were good this year.

I was gone for hours and I had a very fun, wonderful time, even by myself. And, of course, MY wish list just grew and grew. I haven’t been shopping for anything other than food or household items (except online birthday items) in a very long time. I don’t even look at decorative items to prettify my house anymore. Sad and I miss it. So as I was out and about I kept adding more and more things to my personal Covet List wish list.

I got home in time to put my feet up for a rather short time before getting everyone ready to head out to the city’s Christmas Parade. The parade was scheduled to start at 6pm. This was the first year we didn’t have someone in the parade (the cub scout float) so we wanted to make sure we had a decent parking spot and a good place to stand. The plan was to make the night part of our celebratory time.

bundled

We bundled everyone up in coats and hats/scarves and headed out. It only got down to 40 degrees but with the wind I knew we’d have some cold people, mainly me. the-monkeyWe left the house just before 5pm and went down to the frothy monkey. We heart the frothy monkey! They have the best Greek panini! And of course no where else can one find a frothy burger. We drank coffee or hot cocoa and had some muffins to help keep us from starving during the parade (read: to keep little people and mama from getting grumpy). There were lots of people trickling in and out of the monkey while we were there.

lots of business

While we were watching the parade go by we laughed at the fact that a large BlueBell Ice Cream delivery truck was part of the parade (we have a BlueBell distribution center here). But it got even funnier when the truck stopped, three men jumped out of the truck, opened the back of the truck, grabbed boxes of Almond Bars and started handing them out! You can see Princerella eating hers in this picture. She took one bite then told me she was too cold to eat it. But in the photo she is yelling to tell me, “They just htre candy at my head. They pinged my head!”

pinged head

I guess I win the Bad Mother of the Year award, because as I grabbed her to hug her I couldn’t stop laughing. The girl that tossed the candy certainly didn’t mean to hit her, but she had thrown something to Princerella and another child stepped up and grabbed it from in front of her. The child wasn’t being mean or rude, just caught up in the excitement of the parade. So the girl threw another to Princerella and it got her head as she took a bite of her ice cream bar.

I wish I had taken my camera instead of just using my camera in my phone, but the best pic of the night comes from the LATech’s marching band saxophone player who definitely got into the spirit of the parade fun and put battery operated lights on his saxophone.

sax-o-lights

I hope you all are enjoying your Advent season, and making the most of your time of preparation and waiting for the day Christians celebrate the birth of our King.

I wrote this post Friday and forgot to hit publish or to upload all the photos, but I am going to push this through for Friday’s date because I don’t want to get the seasonal story telling chronologically messed up.
