Blueberries!!!
“All doze luebewwies” (eight quarts and that doesn’t account for the one quart that got eaten last night as snacks or the quart that we lost - ate - while sorting)
I got a call yesterday morning from Adrienne asking if I would babysit Lexie while she went blueberry picking. Of I said yes, then she said it was the last day to pick and then I wanted to go. She said come along and got a back up plan for Lexie. We had a wonderful time yesterday afternoon picking blueberries at a nearby blueberry patch. Since yesterday was the last day of the ‘You-Pick Season’ I sure am glad we found out. We all loaded up and followed ‘Miswes Bwad’ out to Pop’s Blueberry Patch and were soon joined by ‘Mr. Bwad’ and Dos Ducotes (actually three of them) and we picked and we picked and we picked and we ate a few and we picked and we picked and we ate a few more and then we picked until they honked the horn for closing.
We came home with many, many blueberries as you can see. I. love. blueberries. SmockDaddy got stung on the finger by something, but we don’t know what. We suspect it was not a bee or a wasp because even though it did swell, it was very minor swelling. (He took some Benadryl when we got home and all was well.) With five adults and eight children (five were ours) we played musical children for most of the time we were there. We each took our turns calling out the younger children’s names as they were enjoying running around picking and eating blueberries with all the friends. As I would call out one mf my children’s names I would here the adult holler who he was close to (notice I said he - CowBoy was enjoying his adventures, but doesn’t leave the side of an adult for long). We took the wagon loaded down with bottles of water and such and it came in handy for holding all our junk (keys and such) too.
I didn’t see any bugs other than this one. It’s ugly and they flew away anytime my hand got near one. It belongs to the ‘True Bug family’ and it’s called a leaf-footed bug, this particular one belongs to the Squash Bug family, because they are found on squash plants as a first choice for food. How ingenious is that? I had wondered if that is what bit SmockDaddy, but everything I find says nothing about them biting, only sucking juices from the fruits.

P.S. - don’t forget the game is still afoot.
Oh, wow! Hubby was just telling me last week about how his grandfather used to take him blueberry picking each year, and had “his” blueberry patches along the back roads of the county where they lived.
Have you read “Blueberries for Sal” while eating your fresh blueberries? That’s a yearly tradition for us. *grin*
We love Blueberries for Sal! As a matter of fact we were discussing it with the others we went picking with yesterday. They had never heard of it and since their oldest will be 3 in a few weeks and some of ours will be going to the party - we gauranteed them that book, along with maybe a few others (but shhhh on that). It belongs in every child’s library, IMHO.
I love the lurking little hand in “ready for sorthing:”.
Yes, that is the same hand that ate most of the quart that was lost during the sorting process.
we checked B.F.Sal out from the library this week. EC thinks that Stephen picks blueberries just like Sal.

If you ever want any more berries I know of a place still open and charges almost half the price you paid.
