1969 Inspriation
The year I was born. The year of peace and love - Woodstock. When you say the word love there, it must be said a bit drawn out and a heavy emphasis on the vowel u sound - luuuhv, man.
The year of the last publication of the Saturday Evening Post. The year the Beatles gave their last public performance. The first ATM was installed in New York City.
Hurricane Camille hits the Mississippi Gulf Coast. As I grew up in Gulfport, everything on the time line of conversations was “before Camille” or “after Camille”. Now everything is “before Katrina” or “after Katrina”.
In 1969 Wal-mart became incorporated. The AIDS virus came to the US via Haiti.
The Boeing 747 takes it maiden flight. The Concorde made it’s test flight. The first troops were withdrawn from the Vietnam War. Apollo 11 landed on the moon and Neil Armstrong took “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind”.
In 1969 Dwight D. Eisenhower, Judy Garland, and Boris Karloff died. Jason Bateman, Renee Zellweger, Steffi Graf, Matthew Perry, and Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs were also born. Samuel Beckett was given the Nobel Prize for Literature.
It was very political year, much like this one. Lyndon Baines Johnson left office as Richard Milhous Nixon was sworn in as President.
In honor of the year of my birth, my blog goes retro, well the colors do anyway. I hope I, on the other hand, keep moving forward. Just keep swimming, swimming, swimming.
